"Człowiek w Kulturze" Foundation and PGS invite you to the first solo exhibit of Filip Wolak's aerial photography "Ponad Zimą" (Winter from Above).
"Winter from Above" is a result of passion, commitment, love of flying, and photography. For an experienced pilot and an accomplished photographer, this marriage is a natural way to look at common things from a different perspective.
"Winter from Above" is the world where familiar objects take new shapes by vividly contrasting against featureless backgrounds, often recognizable only by the shadow they cast. Some structures remain unknown until the viewer dives into the details. The featureless background makes the images appear almost graphic, crossing the boundary between photography and drawing.
Filip Wolak is a NYC-based photographer, commercial pilot, and flight instructor. Originally from Poland, he began flight training after arriving to the US, gaining his commercial pilot privileges. Filip currently works as a professional photographer, specializing in various areas of commercial photography. His work has been published world-wide in major newspapers and magazines.
Named 'Coolest Nightlife Photographer' by Time Out New York and 'Most Influential' by Lens Magazine for a series of photographs covering nightlife in New York City.
This exhibit features a photograph of wintery Central Park, that has won the Sony World Photography Award (Architecture). It's world's largest photographic competition – which got over 230,000 photo submissions that year. It also took 2nd place in Poland National Award of the WPO.
